Hadith 1976

´It was narrated that 'Aishah said:` "Usamah stumbled at the threshold of the door and cut his face. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Remove the harm (the blood) from him,' but I was repulsed by that. He started to suck the blood and remove it from his face, then he said: 'If Usamah were a girl, I would have adorned him and dressed him until I married him off."'

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:

➊ The mentioned narration has been declared weak in its chain (sanadan da'if) by our esteemed researcher, whereas other scholars have graded it as hasan (good) and sahih (authentic) due to supporting evidences. For details, see: (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah Musnad al-Imam Ahmad: 42/7, 8; al-Sahihah, no. 1019; Sunan Ibn Majah, edited by Dr. Bashar ‘Awwad, hadith: 1972). Therefore, despite the chain of this narration being weak, it is still actionable and a valid proof.

➋ One should treat children with love and affection.

➌ If children are hurt or injured, instead of scolding them, one should comfort and console them.

➍ It is permissible to adorn girls with jewelry and fine clothes, but one should not make this a frequent habit so that they remain inclined towards simplicity. However, on occasions such as weddings or Eid, there is no harm in wearing better clothes and adorning oneself within reasonable limits.
