Hadith 1946

حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا رَضَاعَ إِلَّا مَا فَتَقَ الْأَمْعَاءَ " .
´It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Zubair:` that the Messenger of Allah said: “There is no breastfeeding except that which fills the stomach.”

Benefits and Issues:

The meaning of "tearing the intestines" is that the child becomes satiated from the milk.
The meaning of the hadith is that only that suckling (radā‘ah) is considered valid which occurs at an age when the child’s nourishment is the mother’s milk.
In normal circumstances, suckling an older child does not establish the relationship of suckling (radā‘ah).
