Hadith 1899

حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَرَّ بِبَعْضِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ بِجَوَارٍ يَضْرِبْنَ بِدُفِّهِنَّ وَيَتَغَنَّيْنَ وَيَقُلْنَ : نَحْنُ جَوَارٍ مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ يَا حَبَّذَا مُحَمَّدٌ مِنْ جَارِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكُنَّ " .
´It was narrated from Anas bin Malik:` that the Prophet passed by some part of Al-Madinah and saw some girls beating their Daff And singing, saying: “We are girls from Banu Najjar what an excellent neighbor is Muhammad.” The Prophet said: “Allah knows that you are dear to me.”

Benefits and Issues:

➊ It is permissible for young girls to play the duff (tambourine), but one should avoid other musical instruments.

➋ An honorable elder may express affection to young girls with appropriate words, provided there is no risk of misunderstanding.

➌ The words “Allah knows” carry the meaning of an oath. It is permissible to use words of oath for emphasis, even if there is no situation of doubt or suspicion.

➍ The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) loved the Ansar because they made great sacrifices for Islam. For the believers as well, loving the Ansar is a requirement of their faith.
