Hadith 1833

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، وَأَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْوَسْقُ سِتُّونَ صَاعًا " .
´It was narrated that:` Jabir bin Abdullah said: “The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Wasq is sixty Sa.' ”

Benefits and Issues:

The linguists have stated this very amount for a wasq.
And in the previous authentic narration, this same amount has been mentioned.
Allamah Ibn Athir rahimahullah said:
“A wasq is sixty sa’.”
Due to the difference in the measurement of sa’ and mudd between the people of Hijaz and the people of Iraq, among the people of Hijaz a wasq equals three hundred and twenty ratl (one hundred and sixty seer or four mann),
and among the people of Iraq it equals four hundred and eighty ratl (two hundred and forty seer or six mann). (al-Nihayah: 5/185, entry:

The reliable weight is that of Hijaz, according to which one wasq is approximately four mann.
