Benefit:
The aforementioned narration has been declared weak in its chain by our esteemed researcher, whereas other scholars have deemed it authentic based on supporting evidences and have discussed it in detail, from which it becomes clear that this narration, due to its supporting evidences, becomes authoritative and actionable. For further details, see: [ارواء الغليل : 283 ، 280/3 ۔ حديث : 805]
In addition, Imam Nawawi rahimahullah writes regarding this that although this hadith is mursal, the fatwa of the Imams supports it. «والله اعلم»

Narrator of the Hadith:
Hazrat ‘Attab bin Asid radi Allahu anhu—on “‘Ayn” is a fathah and on “Ta” is a shaddah. In «اَسيد», on the “hamzah” is a fathah and under the “sin” is a kasrah. His lineage is as follows: ‘Attab bin Asid bin Abu al-‘Is bin Umayyah bin ‘Abd Shams al-Umawi al-Makki. He is a well-known companion. When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam set out for Hunayn after the conquest of Makkah, he appointed him as his governor over Makkah. He remained in this position during the era of the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the era of Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu. One opinion is that he passed away on the same day that Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu passed away, and another opinion is that he lived until the last days of the caliphate of ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu.
