Brief Explanation
1؎: If someone possessed ten dinars at the beginning of the year, but acquired another ten dinars in the middle of the year, then zakat will not become obligatory upon him until a full year passes over the twenty dinars. This is the opinion of al-Shafi‘i. Abu Hanifah said that the wealth acquired in the middle of the year will be combined with the previous wealth, and zakat will become obligatory upon it at the completion of the year. This difference of opinion is in the case where the second wealth is acquired separately; but if it is profit from the first wealth, then by consensus it will be combined with it.
Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:

Zakat becomes obligatory after one year has passed while owning the nisab (minimum amount) of gold, silver, etc.

For agricultural produce, zakat becomes obligatory as soon as the crop is harvested from the orchard or field; the passing of a year is not a condition for this. Allah the Exalted has said:

“And pay its due on the day of its harvest.”

If someone already possesses some wealth but it is less than the nisab, and then acquires additional wealth which completes the nisab, the beginning of the year will be counted from the time the nisab is completed. If, after one year from that point, he still possesses the nisab, he will pay zakat.
