Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ A woman experiencing istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) can perform every act of worship that a ritually pure woman can perform; thus, she may also observe i'tikaf (spiritual retreat).

➋ If red blood appears outside the days of the monthly cycle, it will also be considered istihada. The same ruling applies to yellow blood.

➌ The purpose of sitting in a vessel was to prevent the mosque mats and similar items from becoming soiled.

➍ This hadith supports the position of those scholars who consider it necessary for women to perform i'tikaf in the mosque as well, because if i'tikaf at home were permissible, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would have instructed this woman to observe i'tikaf at home, so that she would not have needed to use a vessel.
