´It was narrated that ‘Aishah said:` “I used to enter the house to relieve myself, and there was a sick person there, and I only inquired after him as I was passing through.” She said: “And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would not enter the house except to relieve himself, then they were observing I’tikaf.”

Benefits and Issues:
➊
It is prohibited for the person in i‘tikaf (spiritual retreat) to leave the mosque without necessity.
➋
It is permissible to leave the mosque for the purpose of relieving oneself.
➌
If there is no arrangement for a toilet attached to the mosque, the person in i‘tikaf may go home for this purpose.
➍
Taking a ritual bath (ghusl) due to major impurity (janabah) is also a necessity for which it is essential to leave the mosque; therefore, the person in i‘tikaf may go outside for this purpose as well.

It is not permissible to leave i‘tikaf to visit a sick person, but if one has to go outside for a legitimate reason and meets a sick person on the way, it is permissible to inquire about his condition; however, it is not permissible to stop and converse with him.
