Brief Explanation
1؎: In the previous narrations, there is explicit prohibition of fasting on Friday, and from this hadith it is understood that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would often be fasting on Fridays. The reconciliation given is that fasting on Friday was a particularity (khasiyyah) of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and the specific prohibition of fasting on Friday is for the ummah. Or it may be said that if Friday coincided with the white days (ayyam al-beedh), then he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would also fast on Friday, or he would fast on Friday by joining it with a day before or after.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefit:
This hadith is not contrary to the previous ahadith because when the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) fasted on Friday, he would have also fasted on Thursday or Saturday along with it.
