´It was narrated from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “Whoever fasts six days after the Fitr will have completed the year, for whoever does a good deed will have the reward of ten like it.”

Brief Explanation
1؎: So the thirty fasts of Ramadan and six of Eid (i.e., Shawwal) together make thirty-six. Multiplying by ten (as each good deed is rewarded tenfold), this equals 360 fasts, and there are as many days in a year. Thus, it is as if he has fasted the entire year. Subhan Allah, how gracious Allah Ta'ala is to His weak servants! Now, there is a difference of opinion: should these fasts be started immediately after Eid and completed by the seventh of Shawwal, or can they be observed at any time during the month of Shawwal? Whether kept consecutively or on separate days, all ways are permissible. In every case, the reward of fasting for the whole year will be attained, insha Allah.
