Hadith 1695

´It was narrated that Hudhaifah said:` “I ate Suhur with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when it was daybreak but the sun had not yet risen.” [(One of the narrators) Abu Ishaq said: “The Hadith of Hudhaifah is abrogated and does not mean anything.”]

Benefits and Issues:
By this is meant eating the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) in the very last part of the night, when a person might be in doubt as to whether true dawn (subh sadiq) has already appeared, because this meal would, in any case, have been eaten before the Fajr prayer. And the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform the Fajr prayer while it was still dark. The approaching of true dawn has been expressed as "the coming of the day"; by this is meant an exaggeration in delaying (the suhoor), otherwise, for the fasting person, eating and drinking after the appearance of true dawn is, by consensus, prohibited. The evidence for this is the following blessed verse of the Qur'an: “And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night].”
