Benefit: It is forbidden to have sexual intercourse while in the state of fasting. This act breaks the fast. And it becomes obligatory to give expiation (kaffarah). However, acts lesser than this do not break the fast; nevertheless, if a person fears that through acts of affection his passions may become uncontrollable, and he may end up committing intercourse, then he should also refrain from kissing and embracing, as is explicitly mentioned in the ahadith of the following chapter.
