1؎ : When the month of Sha'ban would arrive, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would also fast abundantly in this month. Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha radi Allahu anha would also make up (missed) fasts, and the reason for her delay in making up the fasts was that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had great love for Aisha radi Allahu anha. If she were to fast earlier, there was a concern that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would experience discomfort.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The missed fasts of Ramadan due to a valid Shar‘i excuse can be made up at any time during the year. It is not necessary that these fasts be observed specifically in Shawwal.
➋ The Mother of the Believers (radi Allahu anha) would delay making up the missed fasts because she feared that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) might desire intimacy, and due to fasting, she would be deprived of serving the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). The Mother of the Believers (radi Allahu anha) would make up the fasts in Sha‘ban because the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to observe many voluntary fasts in this month. Thus, the reason for delay that existed in other months would no longer remain.
➌ A woman should strive by every possible means to keep her husband pleased, provided that she does not have to commit anything that is unlawful according to the Shari‘ah.
