Hadith 1665

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُصَفَّى الْحِمْصِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَ الْبِرِّ الصِّيَامُ فِي السَّفَرِ " .
´It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "It is not an act of righteousness to fast while traveling."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefit:
The meaning is that one should not think that, no matter how much hardship there is, one must fast while traveling.
To think this way and to act accordingly is not a virtue, because there is ease in the religion, not hardship.
Therefore, to choose hardship instead of accepting the ease granted by the Shari‘ah is not a virtue.
This ruling applies specifically when there is severe hardship and there is fear of illness if the fast is completed.
