´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “Al-Fitr is the day when you break your fast and Al-Adha is the day when you offer sacrifices.”
1؎ : The meaning is that when Muslims celebrate Eid, everyone should participate in it; it is not necessary to separate oneself from the congregation and celebrate one’s own Eid apart, nor to be excessively strict in investigating the sighting of the moon. Our Eid will be fulfilled along with the congregation’s Eid, and whoever lies or gives false testimony will be questioned about it.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefit: Eid is a collective act of worship. Therefore, even if a person is in doubt regarding the sighting of the moon or its absence, he should still celebrate Eid together with the general Muslims. For this reason, a large number of witnesses has not been stipulated for the confirmation of the moon; rather, reliance is placed upon the testimony of two trustworthy individuals.

1: By titling this hadith in this manner, Imam Tirmidhi indicates that, in his view, the meaning of this hadith is that if there is an error in sighting the moon and, after thorough deliberation, all the people reach a decision, then Ramadan and Eid should be observed according to that decision.
