´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` ‘How much of the month has passed?” We said: “Twenty-two (days), and there are eight left.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The month is like that, and the month is like that, (and the month is like that), three times, and he withheld one finger the last time.”
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefit:
He indicated twice with ten fingers, and the third time he indicated with nine fingers, thereby clarifying that a month can also be of twenty-nine days.
It is not necessary for it to always be of thirty days.
In the case of the month being twenty-nine days, there is no decrease in the reward for fasting the entire month.
