Hadith 163

´It was narrated that Bara' bin 'Azib said:` "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever loves the Ansar, Allah will love him, and whoever hates the Ansar, Allah will hate him.' " (One of the narrators) Shu'bah said: "I said to 'Adi: 'Did you hear that from Bara' bin 'Azib?' He said: 'It was to me that he narrated it.'"

Commentary:
(1)
The Ansar aided the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) at a time when he and the Muhajir Companions (radi Allahu anhum) were facing extremely severe circumstances, to the extent that it was no longer possible for them to remain in their homeland.
After this, the Ansar also provided every possible financial support to the Muhajir Companions (radi Allahu anhum), and then, in the battles against the disbelievers, they offered sacrifices of life and wealth side by side with the Muhajirun. Therefore, love for the Ansar is, in reality, an expression of love for Islam and the Prophet of Islam, and Allah Ta'ala’s love is only for such pure and chaste people.
And hatred towards these devoted servants of Islam is, in reality, an expression of hatred towards Islam and the Prophet of Islam, which cannot be imagined from any Muslim; thus, hatred for the Ansar can only exist in the heart of a hypocrite.

(2)
To love someone and to have enmity towards someone is an attribute of Allah Ta'ala, which is established from this narration.

Understanding of the Hadith:
It is understood from this that love for the Ansari Companions is also a part of faith. This is because these people spent everything dear and precious to them out of love for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and in support and defense of the religion of Islam. They themselves endured hardship but brought comfort to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Muhajir companions. They gave preference to them over their own selves, offered their lives and wealth in the struggle (jihad) against the disbelievers, and demonstrated such courage that history is unable to present its equal. Therefore, in the heart of every believer is love for them, and only that person harbors hatred for them whose heart is devoid of faith and instead contains disbelief and hypocrisy.
