´It was narrated that Aswad said:` “They said in ‘Aishah’s presence that ‘Ali was appointed (by the Prophet (ﷺ) before he died), and she said: ‘When was he appointed? He (the Prophet (ﷺ)) was resting against my bosom, or in my lap, and he called for a basin, then he became limp in my lap and died, and I did not realize it. So when did he (ﷺ) appoint him?’”

Benefits and Issues:
➊
One of the self-invented issues of the Shia sect is also this: that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) appointed Ali (radi Allahu anhu) as his successor during his lifetime.
But there is no strong evidence for this claim.
If the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had appointed anyone, the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) would not have needed to consult among themselves.
Rather, in the view of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) was more deserving of succession.
Ali (radi Allahu anhu) himself did not say at the Saqifah of Banu Sa'idah that there was no need for consultation because he had already been appointed.
Nor did Ali (radi Allahu anhu) express this matter during the caliphates of Umar (radi Allahu anhu) and Uthman (radi Allahu anhu).
In fact, even after the martyrdom of Uthman (radi Allahu anhu), he hesitated to take on the responsibility of the caliphate.
He accepted this position upon the insistence of some people.
Details can be seen in the books of history.
➋
The agony of death has a physical effect,
which becomes apparent even on righteous people.
There is also a spiritual agony,
which is related to the angels seizing the soul.
This does not occur to righteous believers.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) felt some anxiety before his soul departed, but the separation of the soul from the body occurred in such an imperceptible manner that Aisha (radi Allahu anha) only realized it after the blessed soul had ascended to the higher realm.
➌
Due to extreme weakness, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) found it difficult to get down from the bed to relieve himself, so he requested a vessel so that he could fulfill this need and his pure body and blessed clothing would remain protected from drops (of urine).
From this, it is evident how much importance the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) gave to physical purity and cleanliness.
➍
The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) requested a vessel, but the opportunity to fulfill this need did not arise.
From this, the belief in knowledge of the unseen (ilm al-ghayb) is negated.
If the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had known that there would be no need to use the vessel, he would not have requested it.
