´Rafi' bin Khadij said:` "Jibril or an angel came to the Prophet and said: 'How do you regard those among you who were present at Badr?' He said: 'They are the best among us.' He said: 'We think the same (of the angels who were present at Badr), they are the best of the angels.'"

Commentary:
(1)
It is apparent from the explicit wording that the angel appeared in human form and conversed with the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum). In previous communities as well, there have been incidents where angels appeared before certain humans and conversed with them, just as the conversation between Maryam (alayha as-salam) and the angel took place. It is also possible that the angel spoke to the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) through the mediation of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), just as Jibril (alayhi as-salam) conveyed greetings to Aisha (radi Allahu anha) through the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

(2)
From this hadith, the virtue of all the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) who participated in Badr is established. According to the well-known narration, the number of the Companions of Badr is three hundred and thirteen, while according to other opinions, their number is three hundred and fourteen or three hundred and seventeen. (See: Fath al-Bari, 7/364, Hadith: 3956)

(3)
The descent of angels occurred not only at the Battle of Badr but also on other occasions; however, the angels who were present on this occasion are superior to the others.

(4)
Jihad holds great virtue, such that not only humans but even angels attain honor through it.
