Hadith 1585

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَرَامَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، وَالْقَاسِمِ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَعَنَ الْخَامِشَةَ وَجْهَهَا ، وَالشَّاقَّةَ جَيْبَهَا ، وَالدَّاعِيَةَ بِالْوَيْلِ وَالثُّبُورِ " .
It was narrated from Abu Umamah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the woman who scratches her face and rends her garment and cries that she is doomed (i.e. because of the death of this person).

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
To call out destruction and ruin means to utter phrases such as "I am destroyed," "I am ruined," and the like.

(2)
This ruling is not only for women, but it is also prohibited for men to engage in such actions.

(3)
The mention of a curse proves that this is a major sin (kabirah), which is not forgiven without repentance.
