بَابٌ في النَّهْيِ عَنِ النِّيَاحَةِChapter: What was narrated concerning the prohibition of wailing
Hadith 1581

حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ مُعَانِقٍ أَوْ أَبِي مُعَانِقٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " النِّيَاحَةُ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، وَإِنَّ النَّائِحَةَ إِذَا مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَتُبْ ، قَطَعَ اللَّهُ لَهَا ثِيَابًا مِنْ قَطِرَانٍ ، وَدِرْعًا مِنْ لَهَبِ النَّارِ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Malik Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` ‘Wailing is one of the affairs of the Days of Ignorance, and if the woman who wails dies without having repented, Allah will cut a garment of pitch (tar) for her and a shirt of flaming fire.’”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The term “Jahiliyyah” refers to the period before the Prophethood of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). When an action is described as an act of Jahiliyyah, it means that it has no connection to Islam, and such an act does not befit Muslims. Only disbelievers engage in it, and it is appropriate only for them.
➋ Avoiding the adoption of the customs and practices of disbelievers, and refraining from imitating them, is an important principle of Islam. This principle should be kept in mind by Muslims in every matter of life.
➌ Major sins are indeed forgiven through repentance (tawbah).
➍ The punishment for the woman who wails (mourner) will occur before entering Hell on the Day of Resurrection, as is clarified in the following hadith. It is also possible that it will be in Hell as well.
