Brief Explanation
1؎: By writing on the grave is meant the inscription (katba) that people place on the grave, in which the date of death of the deceased and his qualities and virtues are recorded. Some scholars have said that the prohibition refers to writing the name of Allah or the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), or writing verses of the Qur’an, because at times an animal may defecate or urinate on it, which results in the disrespect of these things.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefit:
From this it is understood that neither the name of the deceased nor the date of death should be written. Placing a stone or something similar as a marker is sufficient.
