Commentary:
(1)
The meaning of the hadith is that, upon the face of the earth and beneath the sky, there is no one more truthful in speech than Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu. This is praise for his truthfulness in every circumstance.
(2)
From this, it does not necessarily follow that Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu is superior to Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu, because Abu Bakr as-Siddiq radi Allahu anhu possessed many other virtues in addition to truthfulness, in which he was superior to Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu. It is the consensus of Ahl al-Sunnah that, after the noble Prophets alayhim as-salam, the most virtuous person is Abu Bakr as-Siddiq radi Allahu anhu, then the rest of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, then the remaining individuals from the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise (asharah mubashsharah), and after them, the superiority of the Companions radi Allahu anhum is according to various considerations.
