Hadith 1552

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was brought into his grave from the direction of the Qiblah, and he was placed in his grave gently.

Benefits and Issues:

The aforementioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission.
However, the correct method of placing the deceased in the grave is the one mentioned in the benefits of the previous hadith.
As for turning the face and body of the deceased towards the qiblah, the scholars have written that this practice is not established by any authentic hadith.
Nevertheless, if the face is turned towards the qiblah, it is better.
Imam Ibn Hazm rahimahullah writes regarding this that from the time of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam until today, Muslims have been practicing this.
For details, see:
(al-Muhalla by Ibn Hazm: 5/173 and Ahkam al-Jana'iz, p. 192)

Regarding the words of the hadith (wal-istilal istidlalan),
the verifying scholars have written that these words have no basis.
Because Imam Mizzi did not mention them in Tuhfat al-Ashraf, and Imam Busayri did not mention them in Misbah al-Zujajah; rather, in place of these words,
(wa-stuqbila istiqbalan)
is mentioned.
