Hadith 1510

´Isma’il bin Abu Khalid said:` “I said to ‘Abdullah bin Abi Awfa: ‘Did you see Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?’ He said: ‘He died when he was small, and if it had been decreed that there should be any Prophet after Muhammad (ﷺ), his son would have lived. But there is no Prophet after him.’”

Brief Explanation
1؎: In one hadith it is stated that if Ibrahim had lived, he would have been a prophet, and in this hadith it is stated that if it had been decreed for anyone to be a prophet after the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), then Ibrahim would have lived. Such a thing was impossible because the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was the Seal of the Prophets; after him, no one can be a prophet, and the divine decree was also thus. Therefore, none of your sons survived, such as Tayyib, Tahir, and Qasim from Khadijah (radi Allahu anha), and Ibrahim from Mariyah (radi Allahu anha); these four sons passed away in childhood. Although it is not necessary that the son of a prophet must also be a prophet.

Benefits and Issues:

This indicates that after Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), no one has been granted prophethood, nor will anyone be granted prophethood in the future. If anyone from the Ummah of Muhammad were to be given prophethood, it would have been Ibrahim (radi Allahu anhu). When he was not granted it, then how could anyone else receive it?

In one narration, the following words are also reported regarding Umar (radi Allahu anhu): The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "If there were to be a prophet after me, it would have been Umar (radi Allahu anhu)." (Musnad Ahmad 4/154)
This also means that when a personality like Umar (radi Allahu anhu) was not granted prophethood—despite possessing so many virtues that, had he been given prophethood, he could have borne its responsibilities—then how could anyone else be granted prophethood?
