´It was narrated from Abu Hariz that Abu Burdah said:` “Abu Musa Ash’ari left instructions, when he was dying, saying: ‘Do not follow me with a censer.’* They said to him: ‘Did you hear something concerning that?’ He said: ‘Yes, from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).’”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Hindus and Magians (Zoroastrians) consider fire to be sacred. That is why, in their customs of happiness and mourning, fire is used. Hindus, instead of burying the dead, burn them in fire. Taking fire along with the deceased bears a resemblance to these non-Muslims.
➋ From this, the prohibition of lighting lamps on graves is also evident. When it is forbidden to take fire along with the funeral, then placing fire on the grave after burial is even more strongly prohibited. In addition, lighting lamps is a waste of wealth, which is forbidden. This is why the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) cursed those who light lamps on graves. (Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Salat, Chapter: What Has Been Reported Regarding the Dislike of Taking the Grave as a Mosque, Hadith: 320) Imam al-Tirmidhi rahimahullah has declared this hadith to be hasan (good), and Allamah Ahmad Muhammad Shakir rahimahullah has also given the same ruling.
