´It was narrated from Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` “Allah looks down on the night of the middle of Sha’ban and forgives all His creation, apart from the idolater and the Mushahin.” Another chain from Abu Musa, from the Prophet (ﷺ) with similar wording.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ All the narrations regarding the virtues of the Night of Bara’ah (the fifteenth night of Sha’ban) are, according to most scholars, weak. Even this narration (1390) is considered weak by those scholars, and thus, in their view, there is no established special virtue for this night. According to Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah as well, most narrations are weak. However, only this narration (1390) is considered hasan (good) by him. Therefore, according to his position, this hadith contains mention of the virtue of the Night of Bara’ah.
➋ On this night, it is appropriate to supplicate to Allah for forgiveness. Fireworks, preparing special foods, or other such invented customs are self-made innovations. It is necessary to avoid them. Only those who uphold tawhid (monotheism) benefit from the virtues and blessings of special times. Whoever commits major shirk (shirk akbar) is deprived of them.
➌ Harboring unjust enmity towards a Muslim brother is a cause for being deprived of Allah’s mercy.

4: The Hadith of Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu
This has been narrated by Ibn Lahi‘ah through the chain of «عن الزبير بن سليم عن الضحاك بن عبد الرحمٰن عن أبيه قال: سمعت أبا موسي ……» etc.
Takhrij (Source References): Ibn Majah (1390/2), As-Sunnah by Ibn Abi ‘Asim (510, other copy: 522), As-Sunnah by Al-Lalika’i (3/447, Hadith 763)
In this chain, ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Arzab is unknown (majhool). [تقريب التهذيب: 3950]
Similarly, Zubair bin Sulaym is also unknown (majhool). [تقريب التهذيب: 1996]
In some books, due to an error, Rabi‘ bin Sulayman is written, and in some, Zubair bin Sulayman has been printed.
Conclusion: This chain is weak (da‘eef).
Note: In the second chain of Ibn Majah (1390/1), besides Ibn Lahi‘ah, Walid bin Muslim is a mudallis (one who practices tadlis), and Dahhak bin Ayman is unknown (majhool). [التقريب: 2965]
This chain is also disconnected (munqati‘), therefore this chain too is weak (da‘eef).
