Hadith 1372

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ كَاسِبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَاسْتَعْجَمَ الْقُرْآنُ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ ، فَلَمْ يَدْرِ مَا يَقُولُ اضْطَجَعَ " .
´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:` “When anyone of you gets up to pray at night, and his tongue stumbles over the words of the Qur’an, and he does not know what he is saying, let him lie down.”

Benefit:
The meaning of the Qur'an becoming difficult is that, due to drowsiness, reciting the Qur'an becomes difficult, and because of sleepiness, one is not even able to understand the words one is uttering. In such a case, one should stop the prayer and recitation, and lie down to sleep.

1311. Commentary: Benefit: Due to the overpowering of sleep or fatigue caused by continuous prayer and recitation, the tongue may begin to falter. In such a situation, a person should take rest.
