Takhrij:
«أخرجه أبوداود، الصلاة، باب يصلي بالناس العيد في المسجد، حديث:1160، وابن ماجه، إقامة الصلوات، حديث:1313.* عيسي بن عبدالأعلي مجهول (تقريب) وشيخه مستور، وله شاهد ضعيف عند البيهقي:3 /310.»©Explanation:
➊ Despite the fact that the mentioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission, its meaning is correct; that is, the issue is indeed that performing the Eid prayer in an open field is superior. However, due to a valid legal excuse, the Eid prayer may be performed in the mosque.
The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would generally perform the Eid prayer outside, going to the Eidgah.
Due to the mercy of rain, he performed it in the mosque.
➋ The nature of the issue remains as it is, but in its chain of transmission, there is a narrator, Isa ibn Abd al-A‘la ibn Abi Furwah, who is unknown (majhul).
Because of this, the narration is weak in terms of its chain.
➌ There is a difference of opinion among the scholars as to whether it is superior to perform the Eid prayer in a spacious and wide mosque or to go outside to the Eidgah. According to Imam Shafi‘i rahimahullah, it is superior to perform it in a spacious and wide mosque, while Imam Malik rahimahullah says that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed the Eid prayer outside at the Eidgah throughout his life.
Yes, on one occasion, due to rain, an excuse arose, so he performed the Eid prayer in the mosque; therefore, performing it in the Eidgah is superior.
➍ It is also a well-known fact that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, as much as possible, always maintained and preserved the most virtuous action. Furthermore, it is narrated from Ali radi Allahu anhu that he went to the Eidgah for the Eid prayer and said that if performing the Eid prayer outside was not a Sunnah, he would have performed it in the mosque; therefore, performing the prayer in the Eidgah is the Sunnah and superior.
