Benefits and Issues:
(1)
According to our esteemed researcher, the mentioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission. However, some scholars have declared it authentic. Therefore, it is permissible for girls to sing songs, etc., at home on the day of Eid. Even if accompanied by a duff (hand drum) (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Eidayn, Chapter: The Sunnah of the Two Eids for the People of Islam, Hadith: 952). Once, on a day of Eid al-Adha, some girls from the Ansar came to the house of Aisha radi Allahu anha and began to sing some verses in praise of their elders while playing the duff. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not forbid them. However, he turned his face and lay down. When Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu arrived, he scolded the girls. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Leave them, for this is our Eid day." Therefore, singing and playing (the duff) is permitted on the day of Eid, but the following matters must be kept in mind:
(a)
This permission is only for specific occasions, such as Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, the days of Tashreeq (the days of sacrifice), and at the time of marriage.
(b)
Permission should be given only to girls. They should not be encouraged, nor should adult men and women participate in it.
(c)
The verses recited should not contain anything contrary to modesty, nor should they teach immorality or contain polytheistic (shirk) content.
(d)
No other musical instrument besides the duff should be played.
(e)
The women singing should not be professional singers. As is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari: (wa laysata bimuhanniyatayn) — "They were not professional singers." (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Eidayn, Chapter: The Sunnah of the Two Eids for the People of Islam, Hadith: 952)
(f)
On such occasions, there should be no mixing of young boys and girls, as is commonly the case in our society during wedding and other celebrations.
