It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that when the Prophet (ﷺ) went out to ‘Eid (prayers), he would return via another route than the first one he took.

Benefit:
This act is recommended (mustahabb).
The wisdom in it is that the dignity and grandeur of the Muslims become manifest, and by reciting the takbirat while going and returning, more and more of Allah’s creation—such as trees, stones, etc.—will bear witness to the believer’s good deeds on the Day of Judgment.

In following the example of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), Muslims should also change their route when coming and going, because firstly, this will manifest the grandeur and dignity of Islam, and secondly, on the Day of Resurrection, both these paths will bear witness to this act of worship.
