It was narrated from Muhammad bin ‘Ubaidullah bin Abu Rafi’, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to come to ‘Eid prayers walking, and that he would go back via a different route than the one he began with.

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
Most of the scholars have declared all the narrations of this chapter to be weak. Among them are our esteemed researcher, Dr. Bashar Awwad and Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah. However, the narration of Ali radi Allahu anhu (1296) has been declared hasan by Imam al-Tirmidhi rahimahullah, but Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah writes regarding it that perhaps Imam al-Tirmidhi rahimahullah considered the narration of Ali radi Allahu anhu to be hasan due to other supporting evidences which have come under the mentioned chapter of Ibn Majah. He further writes that the aforementioned narrations are individually weak, but if looked at collectively, it can be understood that there is some basis for the issue, and then, in support of this issue, he presents a mursal narration that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to go on foot to attend the funeral, and to perform the Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr prayers. Also, the statement of Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib rahimahullah is that there are three Sunnahs of Eid al-Fitr: going on foot to the Eid ground, eating something before going to perform the Eid prayer, and performing ritual bath (ghusl) for the Eid prayer. For details, see: (Irwa' al-Ghalil, by al-Albani: 104, 103/3).

In conclusion, it is understood from the above discussion that going on foot to the Eid ground is at least recommended (mustahabb). However, in view of necessities, it is also permissible to go by riding. And Allah knows best.
