Commentary:
(1)
In the Battle of Uhud, the focus of the disbelievers’ attacks was the person of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
At that time, when the Muslims had become scattered, due to the unparalleled bravery of Hazrat Talhah and Hazrat Sa’d radi Allahu anhuma, the polytheists were not able to succeed in their vile objective.

(2)
The meaning of defending with the hand is that he placed his hand in front of the arrows coming from the enemy so that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would remain safe.
As a result, his hand became paralyzed.
Most likely, a shield was not immediately available.
