´It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever sleeps and misses Witr, or forgets it, let him pray it when morning comes, or when he remembers.’”

Benefits and Issues:
This hadith affirms the importance of the Witr prayer.
If it is missed due to oversleeping or forgetfulness, then one should perform it after remembering or waking up.
From this, it is understood that making up (qada) for Witr is also necessary.
And according to this hadith, it may be performed before the Fajr prayer or after the Fajr prayer.
Because it is permissible to make up missed prayers during disliked times.
Another opinion in this regard is that if Witr cannot be performed in its prescribed time, then there is no need to perform it later; some narrations also support this position.
However, according to some scholars, this ruling is for those who deliberately leave Witr.
See: (Hashiyah Tirmidhi Ahmad Muhammad Shakir 2/333)
And in some narrations, it is mentioned that if the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) missed Qiyam al-Layl (the night prayer) due to sleep or illness, he would perform twelve rak‘ahs after sunrise.
See: (Sahih Muslim, Salat al-Musafirin, Chapter: 18, Hadith: 746)
Based on this hadith, the opinion of most scholars is that whoever misses Witr should make it up after sunrise in an even number.
That is, in place of one Witr, he should perform two rak‘ahs; in place of three Witr, he should perform four rak‘ahs.
But in our view, this would be necessary for the person who is accustomed to Qiyam al-Layl (Tahajjud prayer); for the common person, making up Witr in its original form seems more appropriate.

1431. Commentary: This hadith is not related to this chapter. Perhaps here the chapter and its title have been omitted by mistake (Awn al-Ma‘bud). In any case, this hadith affirms the importance of witr. That if it is missed due to oversleeping or forgetfulness, then one should perform it upon remembering or waking up. From this, it is understood that making up (qada) for witr is also necessary. And according to this hadith, it may be performed before the dawn (fajr) prayer or after the fajr prayer. Because it is permissible to make up missed prayers during disliked times. Another opinion in this regard is that if witr cannot be performed in its time, then there is no need to perform it later. Some narrations also support this position. However, according to some scholars, this ruling is for those who deliberately leave witr. See: [حاشیة ترمذی۔ أحمد محمد شاکر: ج2، ص: 333]
And in some narrations, it is mentioned that if ever the night prayer (qiyam al-layl) of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was missed due to sleep or illness, he would perform twelve rak‘ahs after sunrise. See: [صحیح مسلم، صلاة المسافرین۔ باب: 18، حدیث: 746]
Based on this hadith, the opinion of most scholars is that whoever misses witr should make it up after sunrise in an even number; that is, in place of one witr, he should perform two rak‘ahs, and in place of three witr, four rak‘ahs. However, in our view, this would be necessary for a person who is habitual in performing qiyam al-layl (tahajjud prayer). For ordinary witr, making up witr in its original form seems more appropriate. And Allah knows best.
