It was narrated from Abu Ayyub that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to perform four Rak’ah before the Zuhr when the sun had passed its zenith, and he did not separate them with a Taslim. He said, “The gates of heaven are opened when the sun passes its zenith.”

Benefits and Issues:
➊ According to some scholars, this narration is authentic. However, the words “they did not separate them with salam” are not authentic. From this, it is understood that it is permissible to perform the four rak‘ahs of Sunnah before the obligatory (fard) prayer of Dhuhr either with one salam or in sets of two (two by two). However, performing them in sets of two is better.
➋ This is a time when deeds are accepted.
➌ The time for Dhuhr begins as soon as the sun passes its zenith.
