Benefit:
The aforementioned narration has been declared weak in its chain by our esteemed researcher, but he has mentioned its mawquf and marfu‘ corroborating reports.
From this, it is understood that, based on these supporting narrations, this hadith is actionable and a valid proof.
Therefore, it is recommended (mustahabb) to face the imam during the sermon (khutbah).
Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah has also stated this ruling in his Sahih.
And he has established this chapter:
“Chapter: The people facing the imam when he delivers the sermon,” meaning that during the sermon, the imam faces the people and the people face the imam.
And in the heading of the chapter, he has also transmitted the practice of Abdullah ibn ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu and Anas radi Allahu anhu as being the same. (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Jumu‘ah, before hadith: 921)
In addition, Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has also declared the aforementioned narration to be authentic; see (al-Sahihah, hadith no. 2080).
