´It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that a man entered the mosque one Friday when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was delivering the sermon. He started stepping over the people’s shoulders, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` ‘Sit down, for you have annoyed (people) and you are late.’”

1؎: Some people come late on the day of Jumu‘ah and step over people’s necks to go forward; this is prohibited, in fact, it is haram. ‘Allamah Ibn al-Qayyim has listed it among the major sins (kabirah). Therefore, a person should sit wherever he finds a place; if he arrives late, he should sit at the back.

Benefits and Issues: ➊ One should go early for Jumu‘ah so that a suitable place closer to the imam can be obtained.
➋ If one arrives late, then one should sit wherever space is available at the back.
➌ It is not appropriate to cause inconvenience to others in an attempt to move forward.
➍ If any worshipper behaves inappropriately, the imam may prohibit him during the sermon so that others also become aware and refrain from such actions.
