´It was narrated that Ka'b bin 'Ujrah said:` "The Messenger of Allah mentioned a Fitnah (tribulation) that had drawn nigh. Then a man passed by with his head covered. The Messenger of Allah said: 'On that day, this man will be following right guidance.' I leapt up and took hold of 'Uthman's arms, then I turned to face the Messenger of Allah and said: 'This man?' He said: 'This man.'"

Commentary:
(1)
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, by Allah’s instruction, informed about many matters of the future, which occurred exactly as he foretold; this is a proof of his prophethood. Many matters are yet to occur, and we have faith that all those prophecies will be fulfilled at their appointed times. However, before declaring any news about the future as a prophecy of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, it is necessary to ascertain whether it is established by an authentic chain of transmission or not.
(2)
The purpose of giving advance notice about tribulations (fitan) is that Muslims may remain steadfast upon the correct path at such times and not go astray. In addition, when the foretold event occurs, the faith of the believer increases.
(3)
From this, it is understood that the accusations made by the corrupters (mufsidin) against Uthman radi Allahu anhu were entirely false, and the conduct of Uthman radi Allahu anhu was correct. In the book titled “Khilafat wa Mulukiyyat,” the events are presented in such a manner that it gives the impression that those accusations were correct. To dispel this misunderstanding, one should study the book “Khilafat wa Mulukiyyat ki Tareekhi wa Shari‘i Haisiyat” by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf hafizahullah, so that one may be properly informed of the actual reality.
(4)
By “fitnah” is meant the spreading of corruption by the corrupters (mufsidin) through making false accusations against Uthman radi Allahu anhu, as a result of which the tragic incident of the oppressed martyrdom of Uthman radi Allahu anhu occurred.
