Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:

➊ Standing on the pulpit (minbar) for the sermon (khutbah) is Sunnah.

➋ Wearing black-colored clothing is permissible. However, in our country, a certain sect wears black clothing as a symbol of mourning and as their distinctive sign. To avoid resembling them, it is better to refrain from wearing completely black clothing, especially in the month of Muharram. However, merely wearing a black turban does not constitute resemblance. Therefore, it is permissible.

Benefits and Issues:
The use of the turban is recommended (mustahabb). Since ancient times, people of nobility have worn turbans, to the extent that it is mentioned in narrations that even angels have been seen wearing turbans.
Its forms can vary, and there is also no harm in wearing black-colored clothing. However, it is necessary to avoid wearing black clothing during the days of Muharram and at times of calamity, because black color and black clothing have been made a symbol of mourning. This is as some people do during the first ten days of Muharram, whereas there is no Shar‘i (Islamically legislated) basis for expressing mourning in this manner.

Urdu marginal note:
"Blackish": In Arabic, the word "harqaniyyah" has been used, which is derived from "harq." Its meaning is to be burned in fire. Thus, it refers to a color similar to that of something that has been burned in fire. It is called "blackish" because it is not necessary for it to be pure black.

Benefit:
The permissibility of wearing black clothing is established from this hadith. It is not correct for some people to adopt certain specific colors as their distinguishing mark, for example, for someone to make green, black, or red a particular sign for themselves. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would wear whatever color was available to him. It is not permissible to wear such a color that resembles women’s clothing.
