´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘This day is an ‘Eid (festival) which Allah has ordained for the Muslims. Whoever comes to Friday (prayer), let him take a bath and if he has perfume then let him put some on. And upon you (I urge to use) is the tooth stick.”

1؎ : From this hadith it is understood that the ritual bath (ghusl) is Sunnah for the Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu‘ah), not merely for the day of Friday itself. Some have said: it is Sunnah for the day of Friday, thus even for those upon whom Jumu‘ah is not obligatory—such as women, the sick, travelers, or minors—and who do not even intend to come for the Friday prayer, it would still be recommended (mustahabb) for them to perform the ritual bath. According to the first opinion, however, those upon whom Jumu‘ah is not obligatory are not required to perform the ritual bath.

Benefit: One should make a habit of using the miswak for regular prayers as well, and for Jumu‘ah (Friday prayer) one should pay even greater attention to it, because it has a special connection with purification and cleanliness.
