Hadith 1094

حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ ، فَوَجَدَ ثَلَاثَةً وَقَدْ سَبَقُوهُ ، فَقَالَ : رَابِعُ أَرْبَعَةٍ ، وَمَا رَابِعُ أَرْبَعَةٍ بِبَعِيدٍ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَجْلِسُونَ مِنَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى قَدْرِ رَوَاحِهِمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَاتِ ، الْأَوَّلَ وَالثَّانِيَ وَالثَّالِثَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : رَابِعُ أَرْبَعَةٍ ، وَمَا رَابِعُ أَرْبَعَةٍ بِبَعِيدٍ " .
´It was narrated that ‘Alqamah said:` “I went out with ‘Abdullah to Friday (prayer), and he found three men who arrived before him. He said: ‘The fourth of four, and the fourth of four is not far away. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “On the Day of Resurrection people will gather near Allah according to how early they came to Friday (prayer), the first, second, and third.’” Then he said: ‘The fourth of four, and the fourth of four is not far away.’”
Brief Explanation
1؎: "The fourth of the four is not far off," meaning he admonished his own self for arriving late and rebuked it. And some have said: he consoled his own self that he was only behind three men, and in nearness to his Master, he attained the fourth rank, and even this rank is a blessing—it is not so far off.
