Hadith 1053

´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:` “I was with the Prophet (ﷺ), and a man came to him and said: ‘Last night while I was sleeping, I saw that I was praying towards the base of a tree. I recited (an Ayah of) prostration and prostrated, and the tree prostrated when I did, and I heard it saying: Allahummah-tut anni biha wizran, waktub li biha ajran, waj’al-ha li ‘indaka dhukhran (O Allah, reduce my burden of sin thereby, reward me for it and store it for me with You).’ Ibn ‘Abbas said: “I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) recite (an Ayah of) prostration and then prostrate, and I heard him saying in his prostration something like that which the man had told him the tree said.”

Benefits and Issues:

This person was Abu Sa'id al-Khudri radi Allahu anhu, as is explicitly mentioned in another narration.
See: (Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi, 3/160, Hadith: 579)

Reciting the above-mentioned supplication in the prostration of recitation (sajdat al-tilawah) is Sunnah.

Legal rulings are not established from dreams.
This supplication is not Sunnah because the Companion radi Allahu anhu heard it in a dream.
Rather, it is Sunnah
because the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam recited it in practice.

Trees and stones worship Allah,
but we are not aware of it.
In the dream, Allah ta'ala informed the Companion of a reality which is also affirmed by the Noble Qur'an.
Allah ta'ala says:

“Have you not seen that to Allah prostrate whoever is in the heavens and whoever is in the earth, and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the animals, and many of mankind? But upon many the punishment has been decreed.”
(because they do not prostrate to Allah)
