´It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:` “A woman used to perform prayer behind the Prophet (ﷺ), and she was one of the most beautiful of people. Some of the people used to go into the first row so that they would not see her, and some of them used to lag behind so that they would be in the last row, and when they bowed, they would do like this so that they could see her from beneath their armpits. Then Allah revealed: “And indeed, We know the first generations of you who had passed away, and indeed, We know the present generations of you (mankind), and also those who will some afterwards.” [15:24] concerning her matter.
Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊
This narration is weak.
Therefore, this entire incident is baseless.
➋
In every action, having the correct intention is very necessary.
➌
It is permissible for women to come to the mosque to perform the obligatory prayer in congregation.
➌
If this verse is read together with what comes before and after it, the meaning of the verses becomes as follows:
“And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death.
And indeed, We are (ultimately) the inheritors of everything and everyone.
And certainly, those who go ahead of you are also in Our knowledge.
And those who lag behind—your Lord will gather them all together.
Indeed, He is truly Wise and All-Knowing.” (: al-Hijr: 23 to 25)
In light of this context, the meaning of those who go ahead and those who lag behind (or remain behind) can refer to those who have passed away earlier and their survivors as well.
And it can also refer to those who excel in good deeds and those who act with negligence and laziness.
