Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefit:
When conversation during prayer was permitted, greeting with salam was also allowed. Later, the ruling was given that no one should greet another person with salam while he is engaged in prayer. Being occupied with prayer is sufficient for him; he should remain fully attentive and engaged in supplications (ad‘iyah) and remembrances (adhkar). However, from previous ahadith it is understood that the one praying cannot initiate salam to anyone. Nevertheless, he may be greeted with salam by someone else. He cannot respond to the salam verbally. However, he may reply by gesture.
