Hadith 982

وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله تعالى عنه قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم : « اليد العليا خير من اليد السفلى ويبدأ أحدكم بمن يعول تقول المرأة أطعمني أو طلقني » . رواه الدارقطني وإسناده حسن.
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "The upper hand is better than the lower one, and one of you should spend first on those he is responsible to provide for, lest a woman would say, 'Feed me or divorce me.'" [Reported by ad-Daraqutni, and its chain of narrators is Hasan (good)].

From this hadith, it is understood that if a husband knowingly and deliberately does not fulfill his wife's expenses, then the wife will be justified in demanding divorce from her husband.
