وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت : أمرت بريرة أن تعتد بثلاث حيض. رواه ابن ماجه ورواته ثقات لكنه معلول.
Narrated 'Aishah (RA): Barirah was ordered to wait till three menstrual periods of hers have passed (before she could remarry). [Reported by Ibn Majah. Its narrators are reliable, but it is Ma'lul (having a hidden defect)].

➊ The aforementioned narration has been declared weak in terms of its chain of transmission by our esteemed researcher here, whereas in Sunan Ibn Majah it has been graded as hasan (good). See: (Sunan Ibn Majah, Urdu edition, Darussalam, Hadith: 2077), and the opinion that the hadith is hasan appears to be closer to correctness. And Allah knows best.
➋ If a slave woman, upon being freed, exercises her right to annul the marriage, then just as in the case of divorce, she will be required to observe a waiting period (‘iddah) of three menstrual cycles.
