Hadith 908

Narrated Umm Salamah (RA): When the Prophet (ﷺ) married her he stayed with her for three nights and said, "You are not being humbles in my estimation. If you wish I shall stay with you seven nights, and if I stay with you for seven nights I shall do the same with my other wives." [Reported by Muslim].

1460.»©Explanation:
➊ This hadith shows that when a man already has a wife and now wishes to bring a new bride, if he marries a woman who has previously been married (i.e., not a virgin), he will stay with her for three days. And if she is a virgin (bikr), then he must stay with her for seven days.
After this, he will alternate his stay between both wives.
➋ Seven days have been prescribed for the virgin so that her heart may become attached and her unfamiliarity may be removed, whereas a previously married woman (thayyib) becomes accustomed quickly and blends into the environment; therefore, a period of three days has been prescribed for her.
