Takhrij:
«أخرجه الحاكم:2 /178 وصححه، ووافقه الذهبي، وانظر حديث:833.»©Explanation:
The lengthy narration from Hazrat Sahl radi Allahu anhu has already been mentioned earlier, in which a woman presented herself to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for marriage.
In that narration, it was not stated that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam married the woman in exchange for an iron ring; rather, it is mentioned that he instructed the one desiring marriage to bring an iron ring, and when even that could not be found, he married the woman to him on the basis of teaching some surahs of the Noble Qur’an as her dower (mahr).
If this hadith is the same as the one previously mentioned, as the author rahimahullah himself has indicated, then his statement that this is a portion of the lengthy hadith is not free from doubt.
Unless it is interpreted that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam permitted marriage on the basis of an iron ring, even though, when it was not found, the contract was not concluded on that basis, but rather the teaching of the Qur’an was made the dower (mahr).
And Allah knows best.
