Narrated Abu Humaid as-Sa'idi (RA): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "It is not lawful for a person to take his brother's stick except if he is pleased with such." [Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim reported it in their two Sahih books].

‘Allamah al-Yamani states that Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah, by mentioning this hadith after the previous hadith of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, in fact, alluded to the point that this contains a prohibition of a non-binding (tanzihi) nature, as is the final opinion of Imam al-Shafi‘i rahimahullah. However, such an interpretation is only necessary when it is difficult to reconcile and harmonize both ahadith, whereas here the reconciliation is evident: the hadith of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu is specific, and this hadith is general.
Just as compulsion is permissible in the collection of zakat and some other financial matters, similarly, acting upon the hadith of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu is also permissible despite the (unjustified) displeasure of the neighbor.
