Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abza and 'Abdullah bin Abu Aufa (RA): "We were getting a portion of the spoils of war along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), and some Nabateans (Arabs who mixed with non-Arabs and corrupted their language and lineage) from those of Syria used to come to us and we would pay in advance to them for wheat, barley and raisins - A narration has: 'and olive oil' - for a specified fixed time." It was asked, "Did they have standing crop?" They replied, "We were not asking them about that." [Reported by al-Bukhari].

2255.»©Explanation:
➊ From this hadith, it is understood that even if the commodity is not present at the time of a salam sale (forward sale), the transaction is still valid. However, the quantity, type, time of payment and delivery of the required item, and other such matters in which there is a risk of dispute, should be determined in advance.
➋ Among the Imams, this is the opinion of Imam Shafi'i and Imam Malik rahimahumallah. However, according to Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah, the item should remain available from the beginning to the end of the contract, and at no point during this period should it become unavailable or difficult and impossible to obtain. Nevertheless, the opinion of the former Imams appears to be more correct, because if such a condition were necessary, the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum would certainly have asked whether this item would remain available in the market from now until the time of payment. And Allah knows best.
